NIA URGES NIGERIANS TO CULTIVATE INSURANCE CULTURE

The Director-General (DG), Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Sunday Thomas, has advised the general public to cultivating the habit of securing their belongings in this economic recession with insurance, which remains the best solution to mitigate risks.

The NIA DG, who disclosed this in Lagos at the 2016 Insurance Walk Awareness Campaign, organised by the Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigeria (ARIAN), maintained that insurance operators have products to cater for risks faced by individuals on a daily basis.

Thomas stressed that the awareness campaign was engaged in consolidating the development already recorded in Lagos State, which has remained the leading light in insurance.

He praised the Lagos State Government for its supports toward insurance development, stressing that the industry will continue to educate the public to ensure they understand the importance of insurance.

“The way to go now is to keep what you have by insuring your belongings like building and others in case anything happened; so that you can continue to have a house. You have a car, why not insure it, to make sure that if anything happened to it and you could not buy a new car, the one you have can be sustained? You have children in school, how do you ensure that if anything happened to you, their education would not be affected? There are various policies for all of these and that is the way to go.

In times of recession, Insurance is the last hope,” he said.

ARIAN President, Olamerun Gbadebo, said the event was organised to enable the public cultivate insurance culture and expose them to the dangers of self and fake insurance.
